Town Hall – County Commissioner District 2

February 6, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

https://www.dallascounty.org/government/comcrt/district2/

From the Commissioner….
As 2019 closes and I reflect on my first year as your Commissioner, I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me to work to make Dallas County government meet the needs of its citizens within its prescribed duties from the State and the Texas Constitution. I am very proud of my staff, who has worked hard and with grace to serve you and our mission this past year.

Commissioners have the privilege to present Resolutions to honor citizens of Dallas County who serve the community well. My first Resolution honored the life of public service of the late Irving Police Chief Lowell Cannaday, who had recently passed away. It was also a privilege to honor with Resolutions people like David Krause, who led the Parkland Foundation for many years; and Justice David Evans, who donated one of his kidneys to save the life of a fellow Justice, former Chief Justice of the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals, Carolyn Wright.

The October 20th tornado plowed through District 2 and many are still suffering with the devastating damage it caused to both residential and commercial properties. The County has coordinated with City, State, and Federal officials to get assistance necessary to facilitate recovery quickly. The Dallas County Appraisal District has reappraised homes and properties destroyed by the tornado and will be sending out letters of reappraisal before the end of the year. Any questions involving property appraisals for 2019 can be directed to Cheryl Jordan at the Dallas County Appraisal District (DCAD) at (214) 631-0910. Additionally, there is updated SBA information in this newsletter below about the January 13th deadline to apply for federal disaster loan assistance for property damage.

Dallas County is changing and it is extremely exciting to be a part of it. In January, I will open my new District 2 office. We will be moving into the newly renovated “Brinker” building on the southwest corner of Hillcrest and LBJ. Now known as the new North Dallas Government Building, it will house a new Tax office (now open), a Passport office, offices for Constable Ben Adamcik, Justices of the Peace Steve Seider and Al Cercone, the Dallas County Truancy Court, as well as offices for the Texas Agri-Life Extension Service. I look forward to welcoming you to these new Dallas County offices next month.

We will hold our first Town Hall meeting in District 2 on Thursday evening, February 6, 2020 at the North Garland Library, located at 3845 N. Garland Avenue. It will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature updates from the Elections Department, the Public Works Department and the Health & Human Services Department of Dallas County. I hope to see you there and have the opportunity to visit with you. We will schedule others in other parts of District 2 throughout the year.

I hope that you and your loved ones have a blessed holiday season. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Kwanzaa!
